Top 10 baby names from 2017

Now that the books are closed on 2017, we like to take a look back at the results and trends of popular names. It’s funny how much the two most reputable sites on the subject vary.

Nameberry published their list at the end of November. It’s worth noting the they gather their scores by page views of individual names — so this actually measures interest, rather than confirming actual use of the name.

New Trends in Baby Names

As always, entertainers seem to have the biggest impact on current baby names. You’ll see the Top 50 names sprinkled with names from rappers, actors, actresses and basketball players.

Colors such as Blue, Red, Hazel, Lavender, Ivory and Ebony have boosted up the lists this year.

Disney girl power: BabyCenter makes note of popular Disney characters such as Moana, Belle and Tiana surging in rankings.

One thing surprised me in particular

With the rise in popularity of “girl power” names and names from comic books (Logan, Grayson), I was shocked to not see Diana (Wonder Woman) in the Top 50.

In fact, Diana rests at #217.
